Preparing access extracts before a privileged review | Field notes — Siteridgepoint

Printed access extract lists prepared for a review workshop

Privileged access reviews stall when the first meeting opens on incomplete extracts. Before Siteridgepoint facilitators arrive, ask identity administrators for a current export of groups and direct assignments that grant elevated rights on each sensitive system in scope.

What “usable” looks like

A usable extract names the account, the entitlement, the last successful authentication if available, and a provisional owner. Free-text notes that say “IT admin” without a person attached create delays later.

For host and database administrators, include local accounts that never appear in the directory. Break-glass accounts deserve their own tab so they are not buried among day-to-day operators.

Timing

Pull extracts no more than five working days before the kickoff. Older files invite disputes about whether a revoked account still exists. If change freezes block fresh exports, document the freeze dates in the scoping note so auditors understand the snapshot window.

Handover habit

Store extracts in a controlled share with named reviewers only. Emailing raw administrator lists across personal mailboxes creates a secondary risk that often goes unnoticed until an audit asks how evidence was handled.
